  • Distinctive purple to plum-colored nodding flowers
  • Blooms late winter through early spring

  • Compact growth reaching 12-16 inches tall
  • Deer and rabbit resistant
  • Long-lived perennial that naturalizes beautifully
  • Excellent cut flower with long vase life

Growing Instructions:

Helleborus purpurascens seeds require cold stratification for successful germination. Sow seeds in fall outdoors for natural stratification, or refrigerate seeds for 60-90 days before spring sowing. Plant seeds 1/4 inch deep in moist, well-draining, humus-rich soil. Germination is slow and can take 1-6 months. Prefers partial to full shade with consistent moisture. Space plants 18-24 inches apart. Once established, these hellebores are low-maintenance and will self-sow in favorable conditions.

Garden Uses:

Perfect for shade gardens, woodland plantings, rock gardens, and winter interest borders. Pairs beautifully with snowdrops, early bulbs, ferns, and other shade perennials. Excellent for naturalizing under deciduous trees or in shaded foundation plantings.

Note: All parts of hellebores are toxic if ingested. Handle with care and keep away from children and pets.
