Medicinal plant / tea herb / culinary herb / groundcover honey-bee food plant / for the rock garden. (,THYMUS serpyllum hort.) Organic
This small, prostrate, perennial herb will grow to 3 cm in height. It is a useful plant for groundcover, rockeries, and garden borders. It is also very suitable for container growing. The leaves have a delicious lemony flavour and scent. It has masses
of lilac-pink coloured flowers that attract bees. Use the fresh thyme leaves in soups, casseroles, stews, or in seasoning for poultry, meat and fish dishes.
Sow the seeds in Spring, Summer and early Autumn in clumps spaced 30cm apart The seeds should be pressed into the soil and
lightly water until germination has taken affect. This can take up to 3-4 weeks.
Persevere with them because seed raised thyme plants do much better than plants grown from division. The plants prefer full sunlight and once established, will tolerate quite dry conditions. Ensure the position in which you plant your seeds has good drainage.
Rapidly germinating, keep seed in constant moisture (not wet) with temperatures of about +20°C [68°F]. Seeds must be covered thinly. Do not cover very small seeds, but tightly press into the earth. Keep in cooler conditions after germination occurs.
