Kingswood Torch Coleus, also known as Flame Nettle or Painted Nettle, is an ornamental plant from the Mint family that originates from tropical Asia and northern Australia. Its distinctive foliage boasts magenta and burgundy scalloped leaves with lime green edges, growing in a 24-36" tall and 12-24" wide mound.

While it may remain evergreen in zones 10-11, it thrives as a fast-growing, low-maintenance summer annual in cold climates and can be used in mixed containers or landscape borders. Though not cold-hardy, it can be overwintered indoors. Kingswood Torch prefers partial or full shade and requires minimal watering, making it a perfect choice to add vibrant color and texture to tropical or modern landscapes.

Add a splash of color and texture to pot designs, planters, flower beds, or garden spaces. An easy to maintain and drought tolerant plant, Coleus Color Clouds Hottie is the perfect way to bring the outdoors indoors.

. Coleus are grown for their striking foliage, so pinching back the bloom spikes can maintain a more desirable appearance.

Coleus are wonderful plants for both full sun and shade locations. Coleus grow approximately knee-high. These plants are excellent for combination baskets, containers, or borders. Your customers will like how quickly Coleus grow and fill the landscape with color. They mix well with Verbena, Calibrachoa, and Bacopa since all of these varieties have similar cultural needs. Once they flower in the summer, you can either remove the spikes or leave them to attract pollinators.

Planting & Growing

Coleus will grow to be about 24 inches tall at maturity, with a spread of 24 inches. When grown in masses or used as a bedding plant, individual plants should be spaced approximately 20 inches apart. Although it's not a true annual, this fast-growing plant can be expected to behave as an annual in our climate if left outdoors over the winter, usually needing replacement the following year. As such, gardeners should take into consideration that it will perform differently than it would in its native habitat.

This plant performs well in both full sun and full shade. However, you may want to keep it away from hot, dry locations that receive direct afternoon sun or which get reflected sunlight, such as against the south side of a white wall. It requires an evenly moist well-drained soil for optimal growth, but will die in standing water.
