  • Perennial Plant of the Year 1995!
  • Excellent in a border
  • grouping,
  • hedge,
  • or a specimen.
  •  serve as butterfly nectar sources.

Atriplicifolia ‘Russian Sage’ has lavender-blue flowers, on silvery-green foliage that glistens in the sunlight. The aromatic semi-woody shrub grows upright when planted in full sun but will take on a looser form when planted in partial shade. Cut back the stems to 12-15″ after the first frost in the fall. Plant in a well-drained or dry location where a delicate, airy effect is wanted. This shrub takes an upright form unless exposed to too much shade. Planting Instructions: May be planted in any well-drained soil. Dig a hole large enough to encompass the roots without bending or circling. Set the plant in place so the crown (part of the plant where the root meets the stem) is about 1-2 inches below the soil surface. Cover with soil to the original soil surface and water thoroughly. In spring, cut back to 6" before the new growth begins. Periodic pruning will produce better growth and a stronger bloom.

Pests or Diseases: No serious insect or disease problems.
