How to Grow : Bunching onions grow differently than larger bulb onions, with no concern for spacing. To plant, tightly scatter seeds in the garden or sow 10 per hole in 1 inch of well-drained, loamy soil in full sun. Seeds can also be started indoors 5-6 weeks before transplanting. These versatile onions thrive in various soil types and do not grow as perennial bulbs.
When planted from seed, Tokyo Long White Onions grow to maturity in 65-100 days. Bunching onions have slender roots and start to form scallions in a few weeks. Harvest as tender scallions or wait for slender 16-18" stalks to grow. Can be grown in fall or spring when temperatures are in the 60"s. This particular bunching onion variety can be grown in container gardens and small spaces due to having a smaller root system.
Growing:For optimal growth, keep onions well-watered and weed-free. Evergreen White Bunching onions are cold tolerant and disease resistant, making them ideal for cooler climates. Green onion seeds have low risk of bolting and are resistant to PR, thrips and smut.
Harvesting: When it comes to Bunching onions, harvesting can begin after 60 days. The longer they're in the ground, the stronger their taste will be. With proper cold protection, these green onion plants will survive the winter for a spring harvest. This versatile variety is suitable for both green onions and scallions, but does not have a long storage life.
