The sweet lime (Citrus limettioides) has many different names in various languages. It is an oblong or round fruit with a thin, greenish or orange-yellow peel and juicy, low-acid pulp with a slightly bitter to bland flavor. There are two main types of sweet lime, Palestine and Mexican, with different varieties grown in India. Palestine trees are hardy and produce fruit during the rainy season.
Indian sweet lime seeds, also called limettiodes, grow on a medium-large tree with an irregular spreading form. The flowers are pure white, and the new growth is bright green. The small fruits have a thin, smooth rind with prominent oil glands, and they are typically round to slightly oblong in shape.
Sweet limes are an Indian tropical fruit with yellow rind, pale yellow flesh, few seeds, and low acidity. They are also grown in the Near East, Egypt, and Latin America. They are mainly used for ornamental purposes and as garden trees.
Sweet limes bear fruit in the winter months.Work a small amount of water into sterile, good quality potting soil until it is moist but not wet.
Plant seeds about ¼ to ½ inch (0.5-1.25 cm.) deep in containers with well-draining soil. Likewise, you can put seeds in a plastic baggie along with some moist soil. Regardless of the method you choose, keep the seeds moist (not soggy) and place them in a warm, sunny location.
Fill small, plastic containers that have drainage holes in the bottoms with the potting soil. Use seed trays with individual divided compartments or separate containers such as yogurt cups that have been cleaned and have holes poked in the bottom.
Push one sweet lime seed into each container to a depth of about one-quarter inch. Cover the seed with soil and pat the surface lightly.
Cover the containers with plastic wrap or place them in a plastic bag and seal to retain moisture. If the containers remain sealed in plastic for the duration of the germination period, you should not have to add any water. However, if the soil becomes dry to the to
