Size: 200 Seeds

Bring bright yellow, daisy-like flowers to sunny borders with lance-leaf coreopsis (Coreopsis lanceolata), also called tickseed or sand coreopsis. Its long-stemmed blooms add movement to wildflower-style plantings and provide flowers for cutting, while attracting bees and other pollinators.

Choose Your Seed Pack

Select 200 seeds, 1,000 seeds, ¼ ounce, 1 ounce, or ¼ pound. Count-based packs are sold by the stated seed quantity; bulk packs are sold by weight. This listing is for seeds, not live plants. Seed counts in weight-based packs vary.

  • Flowers: Yellow, approximately 1½ inches across, carried singly on long stems.
  • Main bloom season: Late spring to early summer; additional flowering depends on conditions and deadheading.
  • Light: Full sun preferred; partial shade tolerated.
  • Soil: Well-drained soil, including sandy or relatively poor soils; listed pH range 6.2–7.2.
  • Hardiness: Listed for USDA Zones 4–9.
  • Uses: Borders, pollinator gardens, prairie-style plantings, wildflower mixes, and cut flowers.

Starting from Seed

Start indoors or direct sow outdoors in spring. Autumn sowing may be suitable where local conditions allow seeds to overwinter naturally. Press seeds firmly onto the prepared soil surface and do not cover, as light supports germination.

Keep the seed surface evenly moist without waterlogging. Germination is typically listed at 14–28 days around 65°F, but timing varies with conditions. Sow 3–4 seeds per planting position and thin or transplant to approximately 18 inches apart. Acclimate indoor-grown seedlings gradually before planting outdoors.

Garden Care

Water young plants regularly while their roots establish. Established plants tolerate dry conditions, but good drainage remains important. Avoid persistently wet soil. Plants may produce a few flowers in their first year, with a fuller display in the second year; flowering is not guaranteed on a fixed schedule.

Remove spent blooms to encourage further flowering and keep plants tidy. Provide support if stems lean. Leave some mature seed heads if you want self-sowing, or remove them before seed dispersal to limit unwanted seedlings.

Growing in Containers

Choose a container with drainage holes and room for the mature plant. Use a freely draining potting mix and place in full sun. Avoid crowding seedlings; give plants space for airflow and root growth.

Check pot moisture regularly, especially during hot weather. Water thoroughly when needed, allow excess water to drain, and avoid leaving the pot standing in water. Deadhead regularly and protect container-grown roots from severe winter exposure where needed.

Cut Flowers and Seasonal Enjoyment

Cut fresh flowering stems with clean tools and place promptly in water. In the garden, combine the yellow flowers with other sun-loving plants that prefer well-drained soil. Pollinator visits, flowering duration, and mature growth vary with local conditions.
