Dryopteris atrata – Shaggy Wood Fern (3″ Pot)
Dryopteris atrata is a graceful, arching, semi-evergreen fern with glossy, dark green fronds. Black scales hang from the stems.
Ferns thrive in neutral to acidic, loose, richly organic soil. Ferns are excellent for mass plantings, rock gardens, containers, in woodlands, and naturalized landscapes.
This compact fern variety showcases intricate, deep green fronds with a delicate lacework pattern that adds sophisticated texture to any garden setting.. Toothed Wood Fern (Dryopteris carthusiana syn. Dryopteris spinulosa) features long, triangular fronds made of up hundreds of tiny leaflets that spray up and out in whorls. Growing 12-24" tall, it's ideal for planting in rock gardens, front borders and shade gardens. A low-maintenance perennial, Toothed Wood Fern grows best in partial to full shade and moist soils. Deer resistant and rarely bothered by insects and diseases, it's one of the easiest shade perennials to grow.
