Vibrant Virdiflora Tulip. Red blooms with hardy green stems. Great for borders and pots. Blooms in spring. 40cm height. 11/12cm bulbs supplied.
Outdoor Beds
For optimal drainage, use organic material like peat moss, compost, ground bark, or manure to raise the level 2-3 inches. If water puddles for 5-6 hours after rain, try a different site.
Maximize tulip growth with full sun to light shade and winter cooling. Avoid growing in zone 9 for better chances of return in subsequent springs.
Plant tulips 5" apart and 6-7" deep, with pointy end facing up. Water once after planting to settle soil and allow roots to form in the fall. Foliage and flowers will grow in the spring.
When in bloom, feel free to cut tulips for striking bouquets.
After blooming has finished for the season leave the foliage in place; don't cut it off. The leaves will gather sunlight, create food through photosynthesis and strengthen the bulb for the future. Water as needed during active growth periods; about 1" of moisture per week is a good estimate.
Container options: Pots, Barrels, Tubs, Urns
Use high-quality, well-drained soil for planting Tulip bulbs. Shorter varieties are ideal for most containers. Plant in a spot with full sun to light shade, and keep in mind the need for a period of winter cooling for future growth. This may occur in certain areas of zone 8, but not in the year-round warmth of zone 9.
Plant tulips 4" apart, 6" to 7" deep, pointed end up. Water once after planting and expect roots in fall, foliage and flowers in spring. Cut for bouquets during bloom.
Keep foliage after blooming, fertilize, and water weekly. Remove dried foliage in summer. Dormant bulbs need no water.
