Scotch Bonnet: 10 Seeds

A Colorful Mix of Fruity Caribbean Heat

Grow the bold aroma and fruity heat that make Scotch Bonnet peppers a Caribbean kitchen favorite. This Capsicum chinense seed mix includes red, yellow, and chocolate types for a varied harvest to use in homemade pepper sauces, jerk marinades, and spicy cooked dishes.

Imagine gathering colorful ripe pods from your garden and turning a few into your own signature pepper sauce. Scotch Bonnets deliver intense heat, so begin with a small amount and adjust to taste.

Choose Your Seed Quantity

Available in packs of 10, 25, 100, or 1,000 seeds. Select your preferred quantity before adding to cart. This listing is for seeds to plant, not live plants or fresh peppers.

Starting Seeds

  • Sow approximately 1/4 inch deep in a clean, well-draining seed-starting mix.
  • Provide steady warmth; gentle bottom heat from a seedling heat mat can help.
  • Keep the mix evenly moist, not waterlogged, and provide good air circulation.
  • Allow time for germination, which can be slow and uneven with hot peppers.
  • Provide bright light once seedlings emerge.

Transplanting and Care

  • Harden seedlings off gradually over one to two weeks.
  • Transplant after frost danger has passed and soil and nighttime temperatures are consistently warm.
  • Choose a sunny position with fertile, well-drained soil.
  • For container growing, use a pot of approximately 5 gallons or larger with drainage holes.
  • Water deeply as needed, adjusting to weather and soil moisture. Avoid persistently wet roots.
  • Mulch around plants to help conserve moisture, keeping mulch away from stems.
  • Feed according to your fertilizer's label directions and plant needs.

Harvest and Enjoy

Harvest pods as they reach the ripeness and color you prefer, using garden scissors to avoid damaging stems. Use small amounts in sauces, marinades, stews, and other cooked dishes. Heat, yield, and ripening time vary with growing conditions.

Hot Pepper Safety

Wear gloves when handling seeds or cutting hot peppers. Avoid touching your eyes, face, or other sensitive areas. Wash hands, tools, and work surfaces thoroughly afterward, and use good ventilation when preparing hot peppers. Keep seeds and harvested peppers away from children and pets.
