Light
For optimal growth, plant black-eyed Susan vines in full sun, receiving at least six hours of direct sunlight on most days. However, in hot and dry climates, provide partial afternoon shade for the healthiest plants.
Soil
It is recommended to plant Black-eyed Susan vines in well-draining, organically rich soil with a fairly neutral pH level (6.6 to 7.7). Preparing the soil with a few inches of compost before planting can be beneficial.
Water
The vines prefer well-drained soil and moderate moisture, rather than being excessively wet or dry. Adding mulch around the base of the plants can help maintain root temperature and moisture. It is recommended to provide 1 inch of water per week through a combination of rainfall and watering, increasing during hot and dry periods. Check for dryness in the top inch of soil before watering more in extreme heat.
