Wangenheimia Vulcan
A very unusual ornamental grass, with long wiry stems topped with tactile, flat, fan-shaped seed heads which develop with age into a herringbone fashion. Ideal for cutting and drying. Height 60-90cm
Wangenheimia (Wangenheimia lima Vulcan) - If you like ornamental grasses, this is one that you've got to try! Start Wangenheimia seeds for this unusual grass. Some people call it Vulcan grass, and it has wiry stems and fan-shaped seed heads. As the seed head matures it takes on a distinct herring bone design giving it a fish bone look. This airy ornamental grass is well-suited to mixed borders, and it is wonderful for cutting and using dried or fresh in flower arrangements. Wangenheimia grass begins the season with silver shades, and has the season continues the colors subtly change to bronze.
How To Grow Ornamental Grass Seeds: Start Wangenheimia seeds indoors in early spring. Press the seeds into the soil and keep them moist. Once the seedlings are large enough to handle, separate them out and grow them individually in their own pot. Once frost danger has passed the Wangenheimia Vulcan grass can be transplanted outside.
