Lazy Housewife Pole Bean Seeds
A classic pole bean variety introduced by W. Atlee Burpee & Company in 1885. Its green, stringless pods are known for their fine flavor and buttery texture when cooked. Pick them young as snap beans, shell them fresh, or let them dry on the vine for round, white beans.
Growing information
Direct-sow outdoors 1–2 weeks after your average last frost, once the soil is warm, above 65°F. Choose a sunny site and provide sturdy support for the climbing vines. For a longer harvest, sow another crop every 7–14 days, stopping about 60 days before your first fall frost. Starting indoors is not recommended.
Harvesting
- For fresh snap beans, pick pods when they are plump but before they turn yellow or dry.
- For dry beans, leave pods on the vine until they and the beans are dry and hard.
