Oenothera macrocarpa (syn. O. missouriensis), the Showy or Missouri Evening Primrose, is considered one of the most beautiful of the evening primroses. From June through September it produces luminous, clear yellow paper-thin blossoms up to 5 inches across on soft, velvety-leaved, spreading plants reaching 12 inches tall. Hardy to USDA Zone 4. A superb front-of-border perennial and a standout in large containers. Pairs beautifully with Gaillardia, 'Blue Queen' Salvia, 'Fuji Blue' Balloon Flower, 'Blue Select' Fescue, and 'Telham Beauty' Campanula. Deer resistant. Approx. 200,000 seeds per oz.

Growing Guide

Sowing outdoors: Prepare weed-free soil; loosen top 1–2 inches. Broadcast seeds and rake in, barely covering. Sow in early spring or late fall.

Ongoing care: Apply compost around plants in spring before flowering. After blooming, cut plants back to reduce spreading. Plants are liberal self-sowers; allow pods to mature for natural reseeding or deadhead promptly to contain spread.
