Petunia violacea — Wild Petunia — is one of the parent species of all modern hybrid petunias, native to South America and grown as a tender perennial. Unlike hybrid varieties, Wild Petunia has a relaxed, sprawling habit and reaches 12 inches tall, spreading up to 30 inches wide. It produces a profusion of small violet flowers 1–2 inches across all season long. Excellent in hanging baskets and planters. Heat tolerant; thrives in full sun. Approx. 140,000 seeds per oz.

- Heat tolerant; one of the parent species of all hybrid petunia varieties
- Tender perennial in frost-free Zones 9–11; grown as annual in cooler climates
Growing Guide
Sowing outdoors: Direct-sow into prepared soil after all frost danger has passed and soil has warmed. Seeds require soil temperatures of at least 68°F for reliable germination. Surface-sow; do not cover seeds.
Light requirements: Full sun to very light shade. Less than 7 hours of direct sun per day will produce spindly plants with reduced blooms — site accordingly.
Site and soil: Well-drained, fertile soil, pH 5.6–7.4. Hanging baskets and containers are ideal for showcasing the sprawling habit.
