Planting Instructions
- Plant in autumn for May–June blooms.
- Choose a site with well-draining soil — Dutch iris bulbs will rot in soggy conditions. Amend with compost, peat moss, or ground bark if needed.
- Plant bulbs 4" deep and 3" apart, pointed end facing up.
- Water thoroughly after planting to settle the soil around each bulb.
- In warmer climates, foliage emerges in fall; flowers follow in spring. In colder regions, both emerge after winter ends.
After Bloom Care
- Cut flowers freely for arrangements — 'Montecito' stems are long, straight, and vase-ready.
- Leave foliage in place after blooming; the leaves recharge the bulbs for next season.
- Water about 1" per week during active growth.
- Allow leaves to yellow and die back naturally in summer — this is normal dormancy.
- Remove spent foliage once fully browned.
Container Growing
Use large containers with quality, well-draining potting mix and adequate drainage holes. Plant bulbs 4" deep and 2–3" apart. Pair with low-growing annuals or spring bulbs to complement the tall, elegant stems.
