The Licorice-Scented Basil Loved Across Asian & Italian Kitchens
Anise Basil (Ocimum basilicum) is one of the most aromatic and flavorful basil varieties available — boasting a powerful anise-clove fragrance and bold black licorice flavor that makes it indispensable in Thai, Vietnamese, Indian, and Italian cooking. A 2015 All-America Selections Winner with striking purple-flushed foliage and rose-colored stems that beautify any garden.
Why Every Herb Gardener Should Grow Anise Basil
- Exceptional Flavor Complexity: Stronger, spicier anise-clove taste than sweet basil — perfect for fish, tomatoes, soups, sauces, meat dishes, and as a fresh garnish.
- Extended Harvest Season: Later-blooming than other basils, keeping leaves non-bitter longer. When flowers do appear, they are an excellent nectar source for bees.
- Beautiful Garden Presence: Purple-flushed leaves, rose stems, and a compact 12–16 inch habit make this one of the most ornamental herbs available.
- Available in Bulk: 1 oz (~2,000 seeds), 4 oz (~8,000 seeds), 1 lb (~32,000 seeds).
