Wild Mint Seeds — Mentha arvensis
Also known as Field Mint or Corn Mint, this intensely aromatic perennial has been treasured for centuries — from ancient mythology to modern herb gardens. Crush a leaf between your fingers and you'll understand why: a cool, clean, unmistakably minty rush that lingers long after harvest.
Why Grow Wild Mint?
- Culinary powerhouse — Fresh leaves add bright, spicy mint flavor to sauces, jellies, teas, and meat seasonings
- Natural medicine cabinet — Brewed as a tea, it supports digestion, soothes coughs and colds, and eases indigestion
- Garden multitasker — Acts as a natural insect repellent; crushed flowers rubbed on clothing help keep gnats and bugs at bay
- Home freshener — Tuck dried leaves in drawers, sprinkle on carpets, or add to laundry to keep moths away and freshen any space
- Easy to grow — Tolerates full sun to part shade, adapts to moist or slightly dry soil, and established plants handle late-summer drought with ease
Sowing Guide
- Sow in Spring (Feb–May) or Autumn (Sept–Oct)
- Scatter seed thinly on the surface of moist seed compost — fine seed, so mix with a pinch of sand for even distribution
- Press lightly into compost; keep moist and shaded; water from below
- Germination: 14–21 days at 20°C (68°F)
- Transplant when seedlings have 4–5 true leaves into 15cm (6in) pots
- Harden off outdoors for 10–15 days before planting out after last frost
- Space 30cm (12in) apart in full sun or part shade; pinch tips to encourage bushy growth
Harvesting & Use
- Pick leaves as needed throughout the season
- Harvest tops and leaves when flowers bloom for drying — perfect for winter teas
- Use fresh or dried as a spice, seasoning, or medicinal herb
