Planting Guide

Preparation: Soak corms in cool water overnight before planting to rehydrate — this significantly improves establishment. Orientation does not matter; plant corms either way up.

When to plant: September through November, for March bloom.

Location: Gently shaded areas preferred — also thrives in dappled light, short grass, raised beds, rock gardens, and as under-planting for deciduous shrubs and trees. Can be grown in containers.

Depth & spacing: Plant corms 3–4 inches (8–10 cm) deep, 6 inches (15 cm) apart. Plant in naturalistic drifts for the most beautiful effect. Choose a spot where they can be left undisturbed to naturalize and spread.

After planting: Mulch over in autumn. In colder areas (below Zone 5), lift corms in autumn and store in a frost-free location over winter.

Important Care Note

Foliage dies back a few weeks after flowering and the roots creep close to the surface. Mark or label the planting location after foliage dies down to avoid accidentally disturbing or digging up naturalized clumps later in the season.

Propagation

Plant new corms in autumn, or lift and divide mature clumps in June or July.
