Royal Sweet Pea (Lathyrus Odoratus Royal Lavender) - Royal Sweet Pea vines are an old-fashioned favorite, and they are prized for being so easily grown from flower seeds and their charming, scented blooms. This lavender variety has an average of 3 - 5 blooms in a cluster and each bloom is approximately 1 inch in size. The color of the blooms may range from light lavender to dark, nearly purple, but all the blooms are gorgeous! This variety also makes a wonderful cut flower because the stems are so long and full of blooms.
Grow Sweet Pea plants in full sun, but in areas with very hot summer weather, provide some afternoon shade for the best performance. Position them away from winds and rotate locations from year to year to prevent pests. In cold climates plant the seed in early spring, as soon as the soil can be worked. In warm climates, plant in October through January for spring bloom. For best germination, soak the Sweet Pea seeds overnight in warm water.
