Salvia

Salvia is one of the most versatile plant genera in the garden — spanning culinary sages, hummingbird-attracting perennials, drought-tolerant natives, and vibrant annual bedding plants. This collection brings together both ornamental and culinary salvia varieties, from the classic Broadleaf Sage of the herb garden to the scarlet spikes of Salvia coccinea loved by hummingbirds.

• Culinary & medicinal — Broadleaf Sage (Salvia officinalis), perennial herb; classic cooking and medicinal sage
• Ornamental annuals — Scarlet Sage (Salvia coccinea), vivid red spikes; Salvia horminum ‘Pink Sunday’, annual clary sage with colorful bracts
• Ornamental perennials — Salvia lyrata ‘Purple Knockout’, native perennial salvia; Salvia ‘Snow Hill’ (bareroot), white-flowering perennial
• Pollinator value — all salvia varieties are excellent bee and hummingbird plants
• Growing conditions — full sun; drought-tolerant once established; most varieties deer-resistant
