This Heirloom plant, also known as Florida Cranberry and Red Thai Hibiscus, has medicinal properties and is called Indian Sour leaf. It's used to make a famous Christmas drink with sorrel, ginger, sugar, and allspice.

This perennial is perfect for tropical and subtropical regions. It can be grown as an annual in colder areas and is heat tolerant. The entire plant, including leaves, calyces, and flowers, is edible and packed with flavor. In Burmese, it's known as 'chin baung wat,' or 'sour leaf.' It's also great for container gardening in deep pots.

Culinary Tips

Flower buds and leaves have a tangy flavor, perfect for pickling, curries, or bold and spicy dishes. Use the flowers in drinks , syrups, sauces, jellies, preserves, and chutneys. Fresh leaves can be added to salads or cooked vegetables, and are great for seasoning curries.

Growing Jamaican Sorrel Seeds
We recommend soaking seeds for 24 hours in warm water before sowing.
Jamaican Sorrel seeds should be planted in rich organic soil buried at around one quarter inch. Like most seeds, Jamaican Sorrel seeds should be kept moist and warm until sprouts are noticed.

Jamaican Sorrel seeds should be planted in soil with good drainage but good moisture retention as well. When Jamaican Sorrel seeds sprout, transplant young plant to larger growing areas and gently mulch.

Difficult to communicate

I have items on backorder but I cannot communicate with the company to get answers. Tried their website, email and Facebook. Still no updates. I have no idea if my order will be fulfilled yet they already have my money.

Friendly people and great selection of seeds

These folks have stuff I haven’t seen many other places as well as a few unique varieties. Prices are fair, shipment is timely and well-packed. Finding this company was a thoroughly pleasant experience and I’ll probably visit their website again after I save up my pennies. I can't tell you about germination and won’t know until (much?) later next year since I’ll be planting in Vietnam when I’ve been allowed to go back home after travel restrictions have been lifted.

Very please to have found that you have the Jamaican Sorrel seeds. I’ve been searching for them without success. I’m excited to plant those seeds next year!
