The Cocozelle Zucchini Squash is a popular Summer Squash variety that grows easily and quickly, making it a great choice for organic markets. This heirloom bush squash has a maturity period of just 55 days and produces fruit that are 6 inches long. With a recommended plant spacing of 36 to 48 inches and a plant size of 3 feet wide and 2 feet tall, it is convenient to grow in any garden. Additionally, its blooms make for a delicious beer battered and fried dish.
Cocozelle Zucchini - harvest at young stage with high yield (55 days).. . ."
This Italian heirloom is a garden staple. The plants are bush-type producing long cylindrical zucchini fruit that are dark green striped in lighter green. The flesh is greenish white and firm.
TIP: Remember to keep them picked at about the size of a large cucumber and they will just keep coming.
When to sow outside: RECOMMENDED. 2 to 4 weeks after average last frost and when soil temperatures have risen above 60°F.
When to start inside: Not recommended except in very short season climates, 2 to 4 weeks before average last frost. Sow in individual pulp pots that can be planted directly in the ground.
Harvesting: For optimum flavor and quality, harvest at 3" long for “baby” zucchini, and 6" - 8" for all other uses. If allowed to grow 10" - 12" or so, the flesh can be used for breads, but the tough seeds must be discarded.
