Himalayan Catmint, Nepeta clarkei - Catmint, Catnip
Native to Pakistan,very hardy perennial. Forming large, upright clumps of foliage, it bears from July to September six inch whorled spikes of pure blue (not purplish) flowers with an attractive, contrasting white blob on the lower lip. Makes an unusual cut flower. 2-2½ ft.
From open, grassy slopes, often by streams and lakes, of the Himalayas of Pakistan and Kashmir, comes this very hardy perennial. Forming large, upright clumps of foliage, it bears from July to September six inch whorled spikes of pure blue (not purplish) flowers with an attractive, contrasting white blob on the lower lip. Makes an unusual cut flower. 2-2½ ft.
These plants have fragrant foliage and beautiful 2 to 2.5 foot tall spikes of sky-blue to dark-blue colored flowers that have a lighter colored lower lip. Blooming from late spring into mid summer, if dead-headed flowering to a lesser degree will continue till fall. Attractive to hummingbirds and butterflies. A nice showy species with aromatic foliage. Full sun to light shade in well drained soils that hold some moisture, will self sow were happy and there is open ground.

Native to Pakistan. Cover seeds, darkness needed for best germination. Use 70F, 10-20 days
Sow indoors Jan-Apr. Sow 5mm deep into moist well-drained seed compost. Ideal temp.. Germination takes up to 14 days. Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle to other trays with 5cm spacing.
Plant out once danger of frost has passed with 30cm spacing. Can be sown directly Apr-June. Sow 5mm deep into finely prepared, well-drained soil in a seed bed. Thin to 5cm spacing before moving to final position in autumn with 30cm spacing.
Growing Instructions
Prefers and cool, moist but well-drained soil in full sun or partial shade. May require staking.
Cultivation Instructions
Trim after flowering to keep plants compact and to encourage a second flowering.
