Planting Bare Roots
Keep roots cool and moist until planting; do not allow them to dry out. Prepare a weed-free bed and mix compost into the soil. Spread the roots into the planting hole, positioning the crown at soil level. Cover the roots without burying the crown, then water thoroughly.
Seasonal Care
Water at soil level and monitor moisture regularly while plants establish. Keep weeds under control and feed at transplanting and again in spring, following the fertilizer label.
Removing early flowers can help newly planted roots put energy into establishment, though it delays the first harvest. Where winter protection is needed, cover the bed with straw mulch and pull it back as growth resumes in spring.
Harvest and Enjoy
Pick berries when fully colored and ripe. Enjoy Jewel strawberries fresh, blend them into smoothies, or use them for preserves and frozen fruit. Harvest timing and yield depend on plant establishment, weather, and growing conditions.
