Strawflower seeds are known for their exceptional summertime performance and ease of growth. These versatile flowers thrive in various settings such as pots, hanging baskets, mixed containers, and flower beds. With their high tolerance for heat and drought, they only require occasional watering during extended dry periods.
Paper Daisy Rose (Helipterum Roseum Rose) - Experience the beauty of Helipterum with these versatile seeds that produce stunning Paper Daisy plants. Also known as Everlasting Daisy, the flowers keep their vibrant color even when dried. As an annual, the plant grows quickly, blooms abundantly, and fades after the first frost. With a 3/4 inch diameter, the rose-colored petals have a unique paper-like texture. To preserve these colorful blooms, cut the flowers during dry foliage and hang in a well-ventilated area until dry. With regular trimming, this Paper Daisy plant will continue to produce flowers throughout the season.
Sowing: Sow Helichrysum Bracteatum seeds directly in early spring, gently pressing into the soil's surface for optimal light exposure during germination. Maintain soil moisture until germination, typically 8-10 days. For indoor starting, plant multiple seeds in peat pots, keeping the soil lightly moist and at a consistent 70-75 degrees F until germination. Transplant seedlings outdoors after the risk of frost has passed or when they can be safely handled.
Growing: This plant is highly tolerant of heat and drought, requiring only occasional watering during prolonged dry spells. Be careful not to overwater, as excess moisture can lead to disease. This plant is known to thrive in poor soil conditions. To promote fuller, bushier growth, consider pinching off the tips of developing plants. Deadhead blooms to prolong the flowering season. While it is an annual, this plant readily self-seeds and can return the following year if desired.
Harvesting: To maximize the lifespan of fresh flowers, cut long stems of recently-bloomed blossoms and immediately submerge them in water. For dried flowers that maintain their beauty for an extended period, harvest blooms right before they open completely. To preserve their appearance for floral arrangements, dry the bundled stems upside-down and wire them for additional stability.
