Cestrum tomentosum 'Black Beauty' is a rare flowering shrub from the high Andes of Colombia. It features striking dark purplish-black tubular flowers with cream-colored mouths. This plant thrives in mild climates without extreme temperatures, making it suitable for regions like western Britain, New Zealand, or the northern Pacific coast of the U.S.

Cestrum tomentosum 'Black Beauty' is an evergreen ornamental shrub valued for its stunning flowers and moderate growth. It prefers light shade, especially when young or in hot, dry climates, and requires high water levels. This plant tolerates moderate frost and wind, making it suitable for diverse garden and landscaping uses.

Begin growing Cestrum tomentosum seeds indoors 6-8 weeks prior to the last frost, using a sterile seed-starting mix. Gently press the seeds into the mix and maintain moisture. Before moving seedlings outside, gradually acclimate them to outdoor conditions. Alternatively, sow seeds directly outdoors in late spring or early summer by scattering and lightly pressing them into well-draining soil.
