Lemon Supreme Globeflower (Trollius europaeus 'Lemon Supreme') is a compact, hardy herbaceous perennial featuring double, bright lemon-yellow, cup-shaped flowers from late spring to early summer. This exceptional cultivar brings cheerful, luminous color to moisture-loving gardens with its abundant blooms that seem to glow against the lush green foliage.

10 SEEDS

Growing 18-24 inches tall, 'Lemon Supreme' is more compact than many globeflowers, making it perfect for smaller gardens, borders, and container plantings. The fully double flowers are larger and more substantial than the species, creating a stunning display that lasts for weeks. The deeply divided, glossy foliage forms attractive clumps that remain handsome throughout the season. This moisture-loving perennial thrives in consistently moist soil and is ideal for bog gardens, pond margins, rain gardens, and those challenging damp spots where many perennials struggle.

How to Germinate Lemon Supreme Globeflower Seeds:

Trollius europaeus seeds require cold stratification to break dormancy and germinate successfully:

  1. Cold Stratification: Mix fresh seeds with moist sand or vermiculite in a sealed plastic bag. Refrigerate at 35-40°F for 8-12 weeks. This extended cold period is essential for good germination.
  2. Sowing: After stratification, sow seeds on the surface of moisture-retentive seed starting mix. Lightly press seeds into the surface and barely cover with a thin layer of vermiculite (about 1/16 inch).
  3. Temperature: Maintain cool soil temperature at 55-65°F. Avoid warm temperatures—cool conditions promote better germination.
  4. Moisture: Keep soil consistently moist to wet at all times. Never allow to dry out. Bottom watering is ideal to maintain constant moisture.
  5. Germination Time: Seeds typically germinate in 3-6 weeks after stratification, though germination can be slow and erratic. Some seeds may take 8 weeks or longer.
  6. Transplanting: Once seedlings develop 2-3 true leaves, carefully transplant to individual pots. Continue to keep soil very moist.
  7. Growing On: Grow seedlings in bright indirect light with consistently moist soil. Never allow to dry out between waterings.

Planting Tips: Plant in full sun to partial shade in consistently moist to wet, humus-rich soil. Ideal for USDA zones 3-7. Perfect for bog gardens, pond margins, rain gardens, and low wet areas. Space 15-18 inches apart. May take 2-3 years to bloom from seed. Mulch well to retain moisture and keep roots cool. Deadhead spent flowers to encourage additional blooms.
