Bold Licorice-Basil Flavor — Ready in Just 25 Days as Microgreens
Anise Basil (Ocimum basilicum) is a standout herb that delivers a uniquely complex flavor — the sweet, aromatic punch of fresh basil with deep black licorice undertones. A 2015 All-America Selections Winner, it’s equally prized as a fast-growing microgreen (ready in ~25 days) or as a full-season garden herb with beautiful purple-flushed foliage and rose-colored stems.
Why Grow Anise Basil?
- Distinctive Flavor: Spicy anise-clove taste with a licorice finish — exceptional with fish, tomatoes, fruit salads, and Thai and Italian dishes.
- Fast Microgreens Harvest: Harvest as nutrient-dense microgreens in approximately 25 days — perfect for year-round indoor growing.
- Stunning Garden Plant: Purple-flushed leaves and rose-colored stems make this one of the most visually striking basil varieties in the garden.
- Pollinator Magnet: Late-blooming flowers attract bees, butterflies, and birds throughout the season.
- Available in Bulk: 1 oz (~2,000 seeds), 4 oz (~8,000 seeds), 1 lb (~32,000 seeds).
Growing Guide
Sow seeds outdoors after the last frost in full sun, rich, well-drained soil. For indoor starts, sow 4–8 weeks before transplanting. Pinch the center shoot after 6 weeks to encourage bushy growth. For microgreens, sow densely in trays and harvest in 25 days. Germination: 14–21 days at 60°F.
