The Christmas Rose, also known by its scientific name Helleborus Niger, makes for a beautiful and vibrant addition to any garden during the winter months. It is a popular choice for early spring borders, bringing color to the garden when few other plants are in bloom.
- A long-lived clump forming evergreen producing charming cup shaped blooms when little else is in the garden is flowering. Blooms can be cut for winter posies.
Grow unique and ornamental Christmas Rose (Helleborus Niger) with its rugged, leathery foliage and white flowers blooming in early winter to early spring. Perfect for winter color in gardens and as ground cover for paths.
Christmas Rose seeds require a cold treatment before germinating. Sow them directly outdoors in the fall or in pots, bringing them in after a month of freezing weather. Encourage germination by freezing the Christmas Rose seeds for 3-6 weeks before planting in starting medium. Transplant when the plant reaches 2 inches in height. Can take up to 3 years to flower and is a poisonous plant. Blooms in winter, prefers partial shade and well-drained soil with a pH of 6.2-7.4. Deer resistant. Plant at a depth of 1/16 inch, 5 seeds per plant, and keep moist until germination. Spacing of 18 inches.
