Imai Early Yellow -Allium cepa
The Senshu Yellow variety matures 10-15 days earlier, making it an ideal choice for Zones 5 and 6. As an over-wintering variety with a medium day length, it produces large, yellow-skinned, and crisp bulbs that can weigh over 1/2 a pound. At a 13-hour day length, the bulbs begin to flatten, resulting in a mild and flavorful taste.

50 Days to maturity. Allium cepa. Non-GMO, annual, open-pollinated, heirloom. Heat & cold tolerant. Drought tolerant. Bulbing. Intermediate-day yellow onion, suitable for greenhouses, gardens, & raised beds. Senshu Yellow matures 10-15 days earlier. Intermediate-day-length over-wintering variety for Zones 5 & 6. Large, yellow-skinned, flat globe bulbs, maturing to over 1/2 lb, crisp & mild.

Cultivation: Intermediate-day varieties work best in Zones 5 & 6. Prepare fertile, well-drained soil. Sow seeds in early fall and transplant seedlings in January. Keep soil moist and well weeded. Fertilize as needed. Harvest when skins develop and tops have fallen over. Allow the onions to dry in the open air for at least a week. Cut off tops and roots. Air dry 2-3 more days. This will help to seal the onion and avoid spoiling. Onions can be harvested at any stage before full maturity.
