Flowering details
- Variety: Cherry Blossom amaryllis
- Flower color: White with pink brushing on the upper petals
- Display: Large, showy flowers on upright stems
- Indoor growing temperature: Approximately 72°F
- Light: Bright light while growing
- Expected timing: Often approximately 4–6 weeks to bloom under suitable forcing conditions; timing varies with bulb condition and environment
How to plant
- Select a sturdy pot with drainage holes, leaving a little space around the bulb.
- Use a well-drained potting mix and position the bulb with its neck and upper third above the soil surface.
- Water lightly after planting and place in a warm, bright location.
- As roots and new growth develop, water when the surface begins to dry. Let excess water drain and avoid keeping the bulb or mix constantly wet.
Care during flowering
Rotate the pot regularly to encourage upright growth. Support the flower stalk if needed, especially as the blooms open. Keep the plant away from cold drafts and direct heat sources. Bloom count and the number of stems vary; a particular flower count or flowering date is not guaranteed.
After the flowers fade
Remove spent blooms and cut back the flower stalk when flowering has finished, leaving healthy leaves intact. Continue growing in bright light with moderate watering, and feed according to the label of a suitable houseplant fertilizer. The foliage helps replenish the bulb for future growth.
Protect bulbs from frost. For repeat flowering, allow a rest period after a season of active leaf growth and adjust watering to the plant’s growth cycle.
Important safety information
Amaryllis is harmful if eaten by people or pets, especially the bulb. Keep out of reach of children, cats, and dogs. For ornamental planting only.
