Size: 30 Seeds
Color: White

Grow spring flowers followed by shimmering, coin-shaped seed cases with Lunaria honesty, also called money plant or silver dollar plant. Choose white or purple flowers for your garden, then save the papery seed stems for dried arrangements. This outdoor flowering plant is grown for its seasonal blooms and decorative pods, not as a typical foliage houseplant.

Choose Your Color and Pack Size

Select White or Purple from the available color options. Pack-size labels include 30, 100, or 500 seeds and 1-ounce packs. Choose an available combination from the options.

The 1-ounce options are sold by weight and labeled approximately 1,500 seeds. Actual seed counts vary. This listing is for seeds, not live plants or dried stems.

Plant Highlights

  • Botanical name: Lunaria annua, also listed as Lunaria biennis.
  • Common names: Honesty, money plant, silver dollar plant, and Lunaria.
  • Life cycle: Biennial, typically producing foliage the first year and flowers and seed cases the second.
  • Approximate height: 36 inches.
  • Flowers: White or purple, according to your selection.
  • Typical bloom season: Early spring to early summer, depending on climate and sowing time.
  • Light: Full sun to partial shade.
  • Soil: Well-drained soil; listed pH range 5.5–7.2.

Sowing Your Seeds

Direct sow outdoors in spring in a prepared seedbed when conditions are suitable. Direct sowing helps avoid disturbing the developing taproot. Sow 3–4 seeds per position and cover very lightly, no deeper than approximately ā…› inch.

Keep the surface evenly moist without waterlogging. Germination is typically listed at 10–14 days around 68°F, although timing varies with conditions. Thin seedlings to allow approximately 30 inches between mature plants.

Garden Care and Flowering

Choose a sunny to partially shaded position with room for the mature plants. Water during establishment and dry periods, allowing excess moisture to drain away. Keep weeds down around young plants and avoid disturbing their roots.

Expect foliage before flowers in the usual biennial cycle. Plants commonly finish their life cycle after flowering and setting seed. Leaving mature pods on the plants can allow self-sowing; remove unwanted seedlings or cut seed stems before seed dispersal if you want to limit spread.

Growing in Containers

Use a deep, stable container with drainage holes to accommodate the taproot and approximately 3-foot flowering stems. Sow directly into the final container where practical and thin seedlings rather than crowding them.

Use a well-draining potting mix, place in sun to partial shade, and check moisture regularly. Water when needed and let excess drain away. Because plants usually flower in their second year, plan for outdoor seasonal care rather than treating them as short-term indoor houseplants.

Harvesting for Dried Arrangements

Allow the flat, round seed cases to mature on the plant. Cut stems when the pods have developed and dry in an airy, sheltered place. Once fully dry, gently remove the outer pod coverings and seeds to reveal the translucent, silvery inner membranes.

Handle dried stems gently and display away from damp conditions and direct sunlight. You can also leave seed cases standing in the garden for autumn and winter interest, bearing in mind that they may release seed.
