Ivy Gourd Seeds, also known as Coccinia grandis or Tindora, are unique and hard-to-find Fresh Seeds from the tropical vine called Pak Tum Lung. These seeds are organically grown and rare in the USA.
This vegetable, native to tropical Africa and Asia, is well-known in India for its versatility - it can be consumed raw as a small cucumber or cooked as a side dish. With its robust and resilient nature, this plant is easy to cultivate from seeds and forms a prolific vine. Ideal for xeriscaping due to its drought tolerance, this plant is also highly regarded for its medicinal properties and is used in natural remedies for various ailments in many countries. Soil: The plant prefers sandy, loamy and clay soils and requires well-drained soil. The plant prefers acid, neutral and alkaline soils.
Sowing: Sow about 2-3 seeds in a pot. The seed usually germinates within 2 - 4 weeks.
Planting: Thin out the weaker seedlings to leave the strongest one in the pot.
Climate:The plant grows in the tropical and subtropical regions.
Light: The plant needs to be grown in full sun.
Watering: Water lightly at 4-5 day interval during seedling and growing stage. Restrict the irrigation one week before flowering. The plants should be irrigated during hot weather and care should be taken to keep the root zone sufficiently moist.
Humidity: The plant grows best under conditions of adequate rainfall and high humidity.
Staking: While planting, provide a trellis in the pot with the help of which the plant will grow.
Fertilizing: Liberal application of farmyard manure along with 70 g nitrogen and 25 g each of phosphorus and potash per pot would prove to be rewarding. Fertilizer application should be followed by loosening up the soil. Make sure that watering is done immediately after fertilizer application. If the growth of the plant is weak, vegetable mixture (7:10:5) can be applied at frequent intervals.
Harvesting: Flowering commences about sixty days after sowing. Harvesting can be done when the fruit stalks show signs of drying up.
Medicinal Uses: The leaves are used in diabetic treatment as an ayurvedic medicine
This plant with it's fruit is said to have many herbal uses related to diabetes.
