Elegant shade plants with feathery panicles of white flowers on arching stems, suitable for shady borders or wet areas near water.
Ideal for shaded landscapes, Solomon's plume (MAIANTHEMUM) is a great addition for expert home gardeners. It can easily spread through rhizomes without becoming invasive, making it a perfect option for taller ground cover with its multiple arching stems reaching up to 1-2' from a single parent plant.

Solomon’s plume is a shade-loving, well-distributed plant that produces clusters of star-shaped blooms and red berries. It can adapt to full sun and has larger flowers in brighter light. This perennial also features ivory white, fragrant flowers on arching branches and grows up to 3 feet high and 2 feet wide.
Noteworthy Characteristics: These plants from North America and Mexico have distinctively veined leaves. Group them in woodland beds, shady borders, and native plantings.
Care: Provide rich, humusy, moist but well-drained soil in part or full shade.
Propagation: Sow seed in a cold frame; divide in spring.

Germination Instructions : Best sown directly in the ground in autumn for spring germination. The seed can be very slow to germinate, often taking 18 months or longer.
Sow seeds at any time covering them with compost or grit 5mm deep, keeping the seed pot in a cool, well-lit spot outdoors. Artificial heat is not needed and can prevent germination so be very patient as many species will only germinate in the spring after chilling or freezing in the moist seed tray in the winter. Grow on individual seedlings in small pots until of sufficient size to be potted on or planted out into the open ground
If starting germination indoors follow the germination instructions below.
Stratification: Seed requires alternate periods of cold-warm-cold stratification.
Soak seeds in water for 24 hours.
Place seeds in sandwich bag(s), with a bit of damp sand or vermiculite to keep moist.
Keep at room temperature for about 60 days. Occasionally lightly spray water to keep seeds and sand moist. Place the bag(s) with seeds in refrigerator at 3° C (37° F) to 5° C (41° F) for about 60 to 90 days.
After the required time take the seeds out of the refrigerator and sow the seeds in pots 1/4 inch deep and cover lightly.
Water gently so as not to wash away the seeds. Keep soil moist but not wet. Seeds can take up to two years or more to germinate, so be patient and do not throw away any seed that hasn’t sprouted yet
