Fatalii Yellow Hot Pepper – African Superhot, Heirloom

Capsicum chinense | Annual | Origin: Central African Republic

One of the hottest and most distinctive peppers in the Habanero family, the Yellow Fatalii originates from the Central African Republic and is revered by chileheads for its extraordinary heat (125,000–400,000 SHU) paired with a vivid citrusy, tropical flavor that sets it apart from other superhots. Prolific plants reach 20–25 inches tall and produce abundant canary-yellow fruits that are as visually striking as they are intensely hot. A sought-after heirloom variety for hot sauce makers, spice enthusiasts, and collectors of exceptional chili genetics.

Safe Handling

Always wear gloves when handling seeds and fruits. Wash hands thoroughly even after removing gloves. Avoid touching eyes or sensitive areas. Lime juice applied to burning skin is said to provide relief.

Soil & Water

Plant in fertile, well-drained soil enriched with organic matter; target pH 6.0–6.8. Water consistently, allowing the top inch to dry between sessions. Mulch to retain soil warmth throughout the long growing season.

Planting & Growing Tips

  • Optional: soak seeds in room-temperature water for up to 24 hours to speed germination.
  • Start seeds indoors 10–12 weeks before the last expected frost; sow ¼ inch deep in organic seed-starting mix.
  • Maintain 80–85°F (27–29°C) soil temperature; a seedling heat mat is essential. Germination: 2–4 weeks.
  • Harden off gradually; transplant outdoors once nights stay above 55°F (13°C).
  • Container growing: 5-gallon pots or larger.

Harvest Tips

  • Harvest at full canary-yellow maturity for peak heat and citrusy flavor. Always wear gloves.
  • Use garden scissors; pick regularly to encourage continued fruiting.
  • A small amount goes a very long way — excellent for superhot sauces, ferments, and spice blends.
