Brassica oleracea 'Pigeon Red' F1 is a compact, uniform ornamental flowering kale with rich dark green outer leaves and a striking deep red center. Round-shaped solid heads with wavy, smooth leaves develop on dwarf, tidy plants — color begins to intensify as temperatures drop below 60°F, making it a standout fall and winter display plant. Cold tolerant and easy to maintain; an excellent choice for edging flower borders or filling containers for seasonal interest. Also edible — though milder in flavor than culinary kale. Late to bolt.

Growing Guide
Starting indoors: Sow seeds indoors; cover very lightly. Seeds germinate quickly. Grow transplants on and set outside several weeks before the first fall frost. About 12 weeks from sowing to a mature, fully colored rosette 10 inches tall and 12 inches wide.
Timing: Do not sow too early in warm weather — plants need cool temperatures to develop their characteristic color. Start 10–12 weeks before the first anticipated fall frost for best display.
Site and soil: Full sun; moist, well-drained soil. Apply a balanced liquid fertilizer during the growing period. Keep soil moist during germination.
