However, if plants are kept well-watered during the spring, dormancy may be delayed until late summer or early fall. Prefers fertile, humusy, neutral pH, loose, well-drained soils; avoid heavy, soggy soils. Water deeply, regularly in first growing season to establish an extensive root system. May go dormant in hot, dry summer conditions. Apply a low-nitrogen fertilizer in early spring. Remove old, faded foliage before new leaves emerge in spring.
