Little Elf Hot Pepper – Hungarian Heirloom, Ornamental & Edible
Capsicum annuum | Annual | 90 Days to Maturity | Origin: Hungary
Compact, colorful, and irresistibly productive, Little Elf is a Hungarian heirloom Pequin-type pepper that earns its place in both ornamental and edible gardens. Plants reach just 16 inches tall — perfectly sized for borders, patio containers, and windowsill pots — yet they carry masses of small, vivid peppers that ripen in succession from yellow to orange to red over the course of the season. With a medium heat of 20,000–30,000 SHU, Little Elf packs a satisfying punch without overwhelming. A jewel of a plant that’s as beautiful on the patio as it is versatile in the kitchen.

Soil & Water
Plant in fertile, well-drained soil enriched with organic matter; target pH 6.0–6.8. Water consistently, allowing the top inch to dry between sessions. Mulch around the base for moisture retention.
Planting & Growing Tips
- Optional: soak seeds in room-temperature water for up to 24 hours to speed germination.
- Start seeds indoors 8 weeks before the last expected frost; sow ¼ inch deep in organic seed-starting mix.
- Maintain 80–85°F (27–29°C) soil temperature; a seedling heat mat is recommended. Germination: 1–4 weeks.
- Harden off gradually; transplant outdoors once nights stay above 55°F (13°C).
- Container growing: ideal in 5-gallon or smaller pots; makes a showstopping patio or windowsill specimen.
Harvest Tips
- Harvest at any color stage — yellow for mildest heat, red for maximum flavor and heat.
- Use garden scissors to cut cleanly from stems; pick regularly to encourage continued production.
- Excellent fresh, dried, or added to spice blends and hot sauces. Dries beautifully on the plant for a striking ornamental display.
