Size: 10 Bulb

Anemone coronaria ‘The Governor’ — Poppy Anemone — is a fast-growing, free-blooming bulb that graces the garden with deeply glossy green foliage and vivid double scarlet flowers with striking black button centers. Growing 8–10 inches tall, it is one of the finest cut flowers available — bold, showy, and superb in both borders and containers. Plantings attract butterflies and are naturally deer resistant. Ships as 20 ready-to-plant bulbs (7–8 cm), ready to ship.

Tip: Soak bulbs in lukewarm water for a few hours before planting to rehydrate and wake them up for faster establishment.

Plant Highlights

  • Double scarlet flowers with black button centers — vivid, showstopping contrast
  • Fast growing and free blooming — early spring to mid-spring
  • Outstanding cut flower; bloom size 1¼–3 inches
  • Superb in containers and borders; deer resistant
  • Attracts butterflies
  • Ships as 20 bulbs, size 7–8 cm
  • Hardy Zones 7–10 | Height: 6–12 inches | Light: Full sun to partial shade

Planting Guide

Pre-soak: Soak bulbs in lukewarm water for a few hours before planting to rehydrate corms.

Depth: Plant 3–5 cm deep, no less than 10 cm (4 inches) apart. Claw-like corms planted with the claw tips pointing down.

Soil: Rich, well-drained soil. The richer the soil, the more flowers each corm produces. Good drainage is critical — corms are sensitive to dampness and will rot in waterlogged conditions.

Light: Full sun to partial shade; full sun preferred for maximum blooming.

Naturalizing: Anemones will naturalize and multiply over the years — an excellent long-term investment for the garden.

Care Guide

Water regularly during the growing season; reduce after blooming. Ensure excellent drainage at all times. Anemone coronaria is perfectly cold-hardy in Zones 7–10. In colder zones, lift corms after the first frost and store in a cool, dry place until spring.
