This bean variety, Tendergreen Improved, is perfect for home gardens as it can be canned, frozen and enjoyed fresh. Its sturdy and productive bush type plant produces 6" long, tender and stringless pods. With exceptional disease resistance, it reaches maturity in approximately 52 days.

They taste wonderful any way that you prepare them. Fresh, steamed, stir-fried, pickled, frozen and canned. Tendergreen makes the best pickled green bean as they are stingless and the pods are straight making it an easy choice to pack into a canning jar.

Sowing:Tendergreen bean seeds should be sown outdoors, 1 week after the last frost. Treat with inoculant for nitrogen fixation, then plant in rich, well-drained soil with full sun. Space seeds 1" apart and avoid over-watering. For optimal growth, avoid planting near onions and companion plant with carrots, cucumbers, or corn.

Growing:

To ensure healthy growth, be sure to maintain adequate soil moisture for the beans after they have germinated. Due to their shallow root system, it is important to water them at least once a week if the weather is dry. Mulching the plants can also help to conserve moisture and prevent the growth of weeds.

Harvesting:

The first beans can typically be expected within ten weeks of germination. Consistent daily harvesting has been shown to increase production. For the best flavor and tenderness, it is recommended to pick the beans when they are no larger than a pencil in thickness or between 4-8 inches in length. For the freshest taste, it is advised to serve or preserve the beans on the same day of harvest.
