Zantedeschia ‘Flame’ is a spectacular bicolor calla lily with sizzling spathes that shift from yellow to vivid orange-red as they age, elegantly curling around contrasting red and yellow spadices. Stems are flushed green at the base and surrounded by broad, wavy, lush foliage. Flowers May to October. Bulb size 14–16 cm. Sold as 2 bulbs per order. Native to South Africa; tender perennial — not frost-hardy. Exceptional cut flower, coveted by florists. Grows beautifully in beds, borders, containers, or as a year-round houseplant in a sunny window.

  • Tender perennial — dig in fall in frost-prone areas or grow as an annual
  • Bulb size: 14–16 cm | Sold as 2 bulbs

Planting Guide (Outdoor Beds)

Location: Full sun to bright filtered light; partial shade tolerated in hot climates. Well-drained soil — callas thrive in average to moist soil but will rot in soggy conditions.

When to plant: After all threat of frost has passed. Calla bulbs sulk in cold soil — wait for warm soil temperatures, or start indoors for earlier blooms.

Depth: Plant shallowly so the tops of the tubers are just exposed. Plant with the “eyes” (growing points, similar to potato eyes) facing upward. Water generously after planting to settle the soil.

Container Planting

Use well-drained potting mix in a container with adequate drainage holes. 3 bulbs fit comfortably in a 10–12-inch pot. Plant tubers eyes-up, shallowly. May also be mixed with other plants sharing the same light and moisture needs.

Care Guide

Watering: Keep soil slightly damp but never soggy. Water liberally during the growing season — callas should not dry out.

Cut flowers: Cut freely during bloom — cutting does not harm the plant and extends indoor enjoyment.

After bloom: Leave foliage in place until leaves yellow — it feeds the bulb. In cold climates, dig tubers after the first frost; air-dry for several days, then store in a cool location in peat moss or paper bags until spring.
