This rare and beautiful perennial gem from South America is a relative of the Angel Trumpets (Brugmansia) with smaller leaves and more refined flowers. Lower-growing than other Iochromas, it forms a bushy, spreading plant that is often covered in clusters of fiery red, long tubular flowers that flare 5/6" wide at the tips. Iochroma fuchsioides is absolutely dazzling and breathtaking in full bloom! Hardy from zone 8 onwards. 4 feet tall and wide. Full sun to part shade. Average garden soil. Moderate water needs, do not overwater. , very rare seeds

A spectacular, fast growing shrub closely related to Brugmansia with soft leaves and masses of bright red, trumpet-shaped flowers that it produces over many months. Iochroma fuchsioides is native to cloud forests along the Andes from Colombia to Argentina between 800 and 3500 m. In cultivation it prefers a warm or cool temperate climates without extremes of heat or cold, such as Ireland, western Britain, New Zealand or the Pacific coast of the U.S. but it is adaptable and will grow anywhere where the summers are not blistering hot and the winters are not freezing cold.

Use small containers or cups that have drainage holes. Fill them with a well draining mix, such as 2 parts potting soil to 1 part perlite or coarse sand. An alternate mix is equal parts of coir fiber and perlite, with some slow-release fertilizer added.

After filling the containers with soil, water them, then place a seed or 2 on top. Next sprinkle some water on the top soil layer to settle the seeds into the cracks in the soil. Light helps the seeds germinate, so don't bury them deeply.

Until the seeds sprout, ensure that the soil surface does not dry out and the surrounding air is almost 100% humidity. To maintain moisture, you may enclose the pots in a plastic dome or bag. Leave it open a crack to allow some fresh air in. You may need to drip some water on the soil every day to keep it moist.
