Okra
Okra is a versatile vegetable that belongs to the same family as hibiscus and hollyhock. Its tender seed pods can be used in a variety of dishes, including gumbo and stews, and can even be roasted. Although it thrives in hot climates, this annual plant can be grown in all hardiness zones. The heirloom variety, Abelmoschus esculentus, produces long, slender pods that remain tender even when they reach 6 to 10 inches in length. It matures quickly in just 55 days and is a top choice for pickling.Thrives in bright, sunny growing areas
