Pampas Grass, known for its significant and expansive growth, is a popular choice for ornamental grasses. It is important to provide ample space for the plants and to ensure they are planted in a sunny location for optimal growth. Proper drainage is crucial in autumn and winter. To maintain ornamental grass, trim dead foliage in late winter or cut the plant to 2 feet. Use caution when pruning, as the grass blades are sharp.
How To Grow Pampas Grass From Ornamental Grass Seeds: Cortaderia selloana seeds can be started indoors. Using a seed starting tray filled with a pre-moistened seed starting medium that drains well, place the ornamental grass seeds on top of the soil and gently press the seeds in. Keep the Pampas Grass seeds moist until germination occurs.
Re-pot plants as they grow. Start seeds outside in the spring after frost. For best results, prepare a fine tilth seedbed and keep the seeds consistently moist during the first growing season. Once established, Pampas grass is drought tolerant.Typically, plumes will not form until the plant is 2 - 3 years of age.
