Musa velutina, also known as the Pink Velvet Banana, is a must-have for any summer garden. This hardy banana tree reaches a maximum height of 3 feet and produces beautiful flower stalks with clusters of small pink velvet bananas. These bananas are self-peeling and add a touch of mystical charm to any outdoor space. Get ready for your neighbors to want one too!
After establishing, Banana Seeds - Pink Velutina can withstand harsh winter conditions. A protective layer of shredded leaves around the trunk is recommended during the early establishment period. This variety can be grown as a perennial in zones 7b - 10 or in a greenhouse during winter months. Full sun to partial shade is preferred for optimal growth.
Transform your garden into a tropical oasis with the exotic musa velutina tree, known for its cinnamon scent, exotic leaves, and mysterious pink fruits. While the flesh is edible, the numerous seeds are not, adding an alluring touch to any garden.
For successful growth of this banana seed, it is advised to lightly roughen the surface with sandpaper and allow it to soak in room temperature water for 12-24 hours before planting. It is necessary to use specially formulated soil or coconut fiber due to their high permeability. After planting, it is important to keep the soil consistently moist and cover the seed with no more than 1/4 inch of soil.
To enable the quick development of sprouts, plant the seed into a special breeding container to cultivate it and ensure that the temperature in the pot remains around 80 degrees. If cultivation at these temperatures is not possible, the sprouting process may take up to 10 weeks. The container should also be covered up by a transparent cover such as foil or glass but at the same time avoid mould by taking off the cover once every 3 days and letting a little air get to the soil.
