Star of Bethlehem

Sun stars come in orange, yellow and white. Potted ornithogalum can be used indoors to brighten up the house. These plants are also ideal for window boxes, patio containers and planters early in the season, as soon as temperatures remain above freezing. Commonly called star of Bethlehem, orange star flower, snake flower or chincherinchee, this South African bulb is hardy in U.S. Department of Agriculture planting zones 7 through 11, and can be enjoyed as a tender bulb or a potted plant elsewhere. The plant grows up to a foot tall and blooms with clusters of 15 to 20 small six-petaled blossoms on 12 to 15-inch stems in spring.

You can buy Ornithogalum bulbs and plant them directly in the ground, or you can plant them in pots.  You can plant the bulb at a location where it gets plenty of sunshine. Water it regularly to maintain moisture and also to prevent it from withering and dying.  Ornithogalum grows best in soil with good drainage.
