Expertly grown in Peru, Aji Amarillo peppers have a medium-hot spiciness, measuring 30,000-50,000 SHU. Also known as "escabeche" or "mirasol," these heirloom peppers are a South American delight.

This baccatum plant can grow up to 180 cm and has a longer growing season, making it more cold-resistant compared to other pepper varieties. The name Aji means pepper and Amarillo means yellow, although its color is more of an orange hue.

GROWING TIPS
For successful tropical plant growth from seeds, use Organic Seed Starting Material. Avoid jiffy peat pots, plugs, or potting soil for best results. Proper temperature, moisture, and air circulation are crucial. Peppers have varying germination times, typically 1 week to 1 month. Provide warmth for germination, such as a heating mat or warm surface like a fridge. Plan and start early.

Soak seeds
Pepper seeds can be soaked in water at room temperature for a maximum of 24 hours in order to speed up the germination process.

Sow seeds indoors ¼" deep. Peppers germinate best in warm soil, so gentle bottom heat may be helpful until seedlings emerge. Wait to transplant outdoors until soil is warm .Pepper seeds come from tropical, humid regions and require proper temperature, moisture, and air circulation for optimal growth. Avoid using jiffy peat pots, plugs, or potting soil as they can cause problems with moisture levels and lead to disease and fungus. Organic Seed Starting Material is recommended for optimal germination results..

When to move outside
Place plants outside where they will receive wind protection and a couple hours of sunlight. Gradually increase the amount of sunlight over a week or two. Bring them indoors if night temperatures drop below 55°F
Growing Hot Peppers in Containers
Peppers can be grown all year long in containers. It is suitable for apartment dwellers and gardeners who live in cool regions where the number of growing days are limited. Many pepper enthusiast grow peppers in pots so they can have fresh peppers all year long. It’s best to use 5 gallon containers so the roots do not get too over-crowded
Soil Requirements: Requires fertile soil in a well drained location in the garden. Apply much and grass clippings, or straw around base of plant.
Water Requirements: Water well with soaker hoses during dry and hot spells.
Fertilizer Requirements: Use Slow Release Fertilizer when transplanting outdoors. Apply Miracle Gro every two weeks.
Harvest Tips:
Harvest hot peppers when they are fully mature using a garden scissor so you don't damage the plant. Pick peppers as they mature to encourage new buds to form.

    No germination

I know peppers can take a while to germinate but after over a month of waiting I"m convinced my Aji amarillo seeds aren't gonna show. I planted them in soil blocks in flats covered with transparent tops under lights and on heat mats - same as I did (and at the same time) for my Scotch bonnet, Aleppo, and two types of sweet peppers, all of which germinated and are now 3 inches tall. This is my first time trying Aji amarillo. I've read that the seeds don't make it out of southern Mexico except in dried chiles so maybe the seeds I received came via this route and aren't viable? Or maybe something else is going on.

    premature evaluation of seeds:

Why-the-devil I'm invited to share my thoughts or review of (rather expensive) seeds that have just started to germinate is beyond my understanding. It is typical of places like Caribbeangardenseed and other sellers of small amounts of seeds to be a nuisance, exhorting one to buy more when the purchaser has still to see significant germination from many of the seeds recently received, especially the Capsicum baccatum, which take more time to germinate than the other peppers. They should know that. What foolishness!
