arendsii ‘Fanal’ has deep garnet red, narrow plumes with lacy deep green or bronze-green foliage. Red foliage emerges in spring, very attractive in its own right, this gradually changes to green. Flower fronds are held upright atop a low mound of foliage, creating most of the plant’s height. Do not allow Astilbe ‘Fanal’ to dry out. A showy astilbe for beautiful summer color in shady areas. This perennial thrives in moist, shady locations and is popular for border plantings or alongside water areas. Plant in groups for maximum impact. Excellent for drying or to cut and place fresh in the vase.
Planting Instructions: May be planted in any well-drained soil. Dig a hole large enough to encompass the roots without bending or circling. Set the plant in place so the crown (part of the plant where the root meets the stem) is about 1-2 inches below the soil surface. Cover with soil to the original soil surface and water thoroughly.
Pests or Diseases: Slug resistant, deer resistant, resistant to walnut toxicity. Bothered by Japanese beetles and spider mites.
