Astilbe are a popular choice for shady gardens, where they perform well if given a rich, moist soil and regular watering. This tall, late-blooming selection features showy, magenta-purple plumes, over a mound of elegant, lacy green leaves. Also thrives in tubs, or mixed containers. Excellent for cutting. Seed heads may be removed, or left on the plant for winter interest. Fertilize in April and June. Plants should be divided every 2 to 3 years, in early spring. Will tolerate full sun, in cool summer regions.

Planting Instructions: May be planted in any well-drained soil. Dig a hole large enough to encompass the roots without bending or circling. Set the plant in place so the crown (part of the plant where the root meets the stem) is about 1-2 inches below the soil surface. Cover with soil to the original soil surface and water thoroughly.

Pests or Diseases: Slug resistant, deer resistant, resistant to walnut toxicity. Bothered by Japanese beetles and spider mites.
